Shanxi and the Silk Road:
Stats and Countermeasures of Shanxi in the “One Belt and One Road”

Abstract: The Silk Road was an important international channel linking east and west civilization in ancient China. Shanxi has been connection with the central plains farming civilization and grassland nomadic civilization since ancient times. The connection zone also was the important origin of silk and Silk Road. Shanxi closely associ- ated with the Silk Road in the history. The Wei Jin Northern dynasties of Shanxi was the main road as eastern and western culture、art and goods exchange. As the capital of Northern Wei dynasty,Datong became a political and cul- tural center during the nearly hundred years. Many envoys,business travels,monks from central Asia went back and forth between the Silk Road and Datong Yungang grottoes and Wutai mountain Buddhism are the proof of the China - India cultural exchanges. The rise of Guanyu culture in Hong Kong and Taiwan area,southeast Asia and Europe and the United States is the result of maritime Silk Road spread since the Ming and Qing dynasties. Shanxi merchants of the Ming and Qing dynasties opened up the road to international tea. The road to international tea was in line with Silk Road of the past.
